Phil Adams – Director
Phil Adams locally born in Barnstaple first discovered his passion for carpentry as a young child making a model wooden farm yard with his granddad in his shed. With his granddad by his side and his passion forever growing he started making bigger projects like a wooden go kart and a chair.
When Phil completed his final year at school his future career was already shaped by the young boy making things with his granddad. There was certainly no doubt that a career in carpentry was the direction he was destined for.
With his strong passion for wood work and intricate detail he applied to a local construction firm Pearce construction for an apprenticeship and was successful in his application. For the 5 years Phil was with Pearce construction he gained invaluable skills, knowledge and experience in a wide range of carpentry.
After his time with Pearce’s Phil felt it was time to pursue a new direction in the construction industry and became a subcontractor working on various projects and building sites all over the south west, which included working on the famously known Gidleigh park hotel in Chagford with renowned head chef Michael Canes and major construction of the Art block and Theatre at West Buckland School.
During his time as a subcontractor Phil had an opportunity to work for a local builder in Braunton, North Devon. As a new Dad this offered him a more local base close by with less travel and nights away from home. It was during this period of time that Phil discovered that working on a one to one basis with clients rather than building sites that it ignited a new found passion for general building.
While discovering his new passion of general building Phil got to work with a variety of local tradesman including his future business partner Iain Harris.
Phil and Iain worked together for over 10 years on various local building projects. Over the years they struck up an outstanding friendship with many things in common including being avid Chelsea football fans and the love of construction and wood work to name a few.
In the many years of working together it became apparent that both Phil and Iain shared the same dream and ambition that some day in the future they wanted to make their dream become reality and set up their own business which is now Complete Building Solutions.
Iain Harris was born and bred in Braunton and still lives there with his partner and two young daughters.
Through working for the Family Business [JBG Flat Roofing Ltd] he re-woke his love for Carpentry work, it was also the only exam he got an A in at school ) and realised that he needed to and could take it to another level.
He approached a local small established General Building Company and through them and the North Devon College went on to complete a three year Apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery.
After working for a further ten years for them as a qualified Carpenter and leaming a wider variety of General Building skills as he went, he decided it was time to go to the next stage and start his own business along with his long term colleague and friend Phil Adams. Iain also has the advantage of being able to draw on his management skills from an earlier career during his early twenties in retail, where he was given and coped with a lot of responsibility at a young age.
So Iain and Phil created – Complete Building Solutions – which continues to grow and develop in the community of Devon.
